The key events that occur is when Jim arrives at his grandfather's farm and the first day he stays at the garden for a while to enhance nature pg(17). Another key event is when Jim goes off running with Antonia to observe golden top trees (pg 22). The next key event is when Jim finishes off giving Antonia English lessons and they both run towards the garden in which they devour watermelons. They do so by lifting out the hearts, and drinking the juices tickling throughout their fingers (pg 26).
The reading ends when Jim and Antonia go to the Russian's home, which is a log house built on a grassy slope with a melon patch with squash and cucumbers, and they invite them to have a glass of melon water.
